Arithmetic Progression (AP) An Arithmetic Progression (AP) is a sequence of numbers in which the difference between any two consecutive terms is always the same. This fixed difference is called the common difference (d). Definition A sequence is an Arithmetic Progression if: Second term − First term = Third term − Second term = Fourth term − Third term = ... Examples 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ... Common difference, d = 4 − 2 = 2 30, 27, 24, 21, 18, ... Common difference, d = 27 − 30 = -3 5, 5, 5, 5, ... Common difference, d = 0 Parts of an AP First term (a): The first number in the sequence. Common difference (d): The constant difference between consecutive terms. nth term (Tₙ): The term at the nth position. Formula for the nth Term Tₙ =a+(n−1)d
