Stay in the "loop" and get "hooked" on rugs In peaceful Prince Edward Island, one can find many vices; seafood, lighthouses, golf or B&Bs but Shirlee Hogan and her sisters, Heather Tweedy and Bette Young are "hooked" on rugs. In the quiet community of Millview, you will find PastimesPEI, a rug hooking studio, shop and gallery that is this family's creative inspiration. The shop itself is unmistakable. When giving us directions Shirlee told us to look for the old butterscotch colored farmhouse with the antique tractor collection on the front lawn! When we dropped by to visit Shirlee, she told us that the art of rug hooking is a hidden treasure for many people and when they discover the beauty and artistry involved they are pleasantly surprised. She and a group of Island women have really grown to embrace this tradition and share their rug love with tourists from the around world. As it turns out, sitting and rug hooking is a great context for chatting and being kept in the "loop" about goings on about town. All of their designs are based on traditional subjects, materials and techniques and they have hours of fun creating their world class artwork, from Island landscapes to Green Gables. Stop in anytime for a lesson in rug hooking or to purchase some gorgeous art. The shop is located in a gorgeous 100 year old mansard roof farmhouse that she shares with her husband Barry and his collection of antique farm equipment, their rambunctious Jack Russel Terrier, aptly named 'Jack', some ducks, chickens and mice! They are friendly and will put out a welcome rug (hooked that is) for you! Visit our site: http://www.greatcanadianadventuretour...
