Mexico City Grand Prix 2026 preview from inside the paddock, covering how to reach the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where the grid stays, security this year, the food, and what Kimi Antonelli needs to be crowned world champion on Sunday. Includes the Day of the Dead festival, the Foro Sol stadium section, Sergio Pérez at his home race for Cadillac, and the Carlos Slim Domit party that appears on no schedule.
Antonelli won in Austin last Sunday — his ninth victory of 2026, lights to flag, 13 seconds clear of Charles Leclerc. He now leads George Russell by 123 points and Lewis Hamilton by 124, with 125 still available. A ninth-place finish in Mexico City makes him the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history. He needs nothing from anyone else.
Getting there: private jets use Toluca, about an hour west, because Mexico City's main airport has no room for them. From Toluca the serious money takes a helicopter — this city has one of the largest private helicopter fleets in the world, and a 40-minute journey on a map can take three hours on a Friday. Meanwhile Line 9 of the metro runs to Ciudad Deportiva, the station sits at the circuit gate, and a ticket costs five pesos, about 25 US cents. A team principal in a helicopter and a fan on the train arrive within a few minutes of each other.
The final sector runs through the middle of an old baseball stadium with 20,000 people closing over the cars. Drivers who have raced everywhere say there is nothing else like it.
We also cover what the other previews leave out: security is noticeably tighter this year, drivers who used to move with one person now move with a team, and a camera was stolen inside the paddock on Thursday — past accreditation, past the scanners.
And the part with no equal anywhere on the calendar: the best food in the country is also the cheapest, and the paddock knows it.
