A Letter to Myself — James Sometimes the person who most needs a reminder is the person looking back at us in the mirror. In “A Letter to Myself,” James sits down to remind himself of the kind of man he wants to be. He sees the anger, division and distance around him, but rather than beginning with what everyone else should change, he begins with himself: I don’t have all the answers But I know what I believe. The song grows from that simple act of self-examination into something larger. James acknowledges his own imperfections and tries to remember that every person he encounters carries a history he cannot see. At the center of the song is a compassionate recognition: most of us are simply trying to make our way through life, hoping for a little understanding when the world feels difficult. Before drawing another battle line or deciding who is right and wrong, perhaps we can first remember our shared humanity. The bridge brings the thought home. James realizes that with a different beginning, a different name, or a different road beneath his feet, he might easily have been living someone else's life. And from that realization comes the reminder he wants to carry forward: Kindness is a choice I make Every single day. Warm, reflective and quietly hopeful, “A Letter to Myself” isn't a lecture about how other people should live. It's one man asking himself to do a little better—to remain grateful, keep his heart open, and resist becoming harder simply because the world sometimes is. Perhaps that's where change begins: not with having all the answers, but with remembering the person we want to be. “A Letter to Myself” © Joe McMichael 2026 Performed by James
