What makes a franchise a cultural treasure? It is branding. And James Bond is a brand. As long as the cultural markers that make the franchise what it is are fulfilled, the brand will remain iconic and protected. The baton to carry the brand forward has been passed to Denis Villeneuve, director of Dune and a long-term James Bond fan, following the controversial takeover of the franchise by Amazon Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. We know little about pre-production. But a lot of information is up in the air, and that can be confusing.
