Michael Liau films V6X19 (XA3632), a 12.8 m Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) Volvo B8L MCV eVoSeti Euro 6, on Service 961.
This was the first time I have taken a Volvo B8L in my life. Prior to that, I have not taken any other B8Ls in Hong Kong. Not even Singapore's Volvo B8L Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 demonstrator, PD169L (formerly SBS Transit's SG4003D), which is in service with A&S Transit.
To be honest, the design is quite sleek. It is, after all, meant to be one of the two buses meant to succeed the Volvo B9TL (the other successor to the B9TL is the Volvo B5TL) and Volvo Buses definitely did a great job at making these machines. They are, in the words of Volvo Buses themselves, 'made to just keep running'. The bus is rather powerful, its engine can produce 350 hp and its air-conditioning is powerful as well.
However, I know some of you may hate me for this, but I'll just say it anyway. The Volvo B8L is too quiet. Sure, it does reduce noise pollution, I'll give it that, but it just lacks the character that a diesel bus has. It just sounds like a blend of a Volvo B9TL and a Volvo B5LH with the noise reduced significantly. I prefer the more louder engines of the Volvo B9TL and the Alexander Dennis Enviro500s. Though they are not as powerful, they have the character the Volvo B8L lacks. But other than that flaw, it's an environmentally friendlier diesel bus, it is a comfortable bus and, most importantly, it is made to just keep running.
