Farmer’s Wife Fridays Week 10 | Checkerboard, Churn Dash & Caroline | EQ8 + FPP

Facebook Page -   / canaryquilts   Instagram Page -   / canary_quilts   Sign up for our newsletter - https://canaryquilts.com/newsletter/ Farmer’s Wife Fridays – Week 10! 🧵 We've reached 20 blocks in our Farmer’s Wife 1920s quilt! 🎉 This week we're making: 💜 1920s #19 – Checkerboard 💜 1920s #20 – Churn Dash 💜 1930s #19 – Carolina We start in EQ8 with Checkerboard, drawing the block, checking the foundation paper piecing sections, changing the numbering so each section begins in the center, and adding both of our new 1920s blocks to the quilt. But then... Carolina throws us a curve. Literally. 😂 The original 1930s Carolina block includes curved seams, and I decided I simply didn't want to piece them. So I head back into EQ8 and redraw Carolina with straight seams, keeping the overall look of the original block while making it much friendlier for foundation paper piecing. I'll have my modified straight-seam Caroline FPP pattern available on the website if you'd rather skip those curves along with me! Then we head to the cutting table to measure our oversized FPP pieces before sewing all three blocks. You'll see how I organize and foundation paper piece Checkerboard and Churn Dash, followed by my modified Carolina. Finally, we photograph our finished blocks and add them to our EQ8 photo quilts. And those photo quilts are really starting to fill up! 💜 Please note: I’m using EQ8 to recreate the 1920s blocks for foundation paper piecing and to track our progress. You will still need the appropriate Farmer’s Wife book for the original block information and quilt construction.
