On this trip I stayed at Sunshine City Prince Hotel — a 37-story, roughly 130m-tall hotel built right inside Ikebukuro's Sunshine City complex. For about $55 a night, I got elegant rooms, high-floor views, and even a dose of hotel art. A genuinely great value stay. Connected directly underground to Higashi-Ikebukuro Station, it's rain-proof and perfectly positioned as a base for shopping, dining, and entertainment inside Sunshine City. Inside the hotel, I discovered artwork by Hidehiko Kado inspired by sign language, and enjoyed the breakfast buffet at Restaurant Bayern on B1. For dinner, I headed to Uokin, a popular seafood izakaya near Ikebukuro's west exit.
