To translate and comprehend how a medicine interacts with the body, Pharmacokinetic parameters are used to provide the following information to drug developers:
how the medication enters the body after administration and is distributed to various organs or tissues
how a medication is metabolized or destroyed by the body
how the body gets rid of or excretes the medicine
Giving a drug to study participants in a clinical study is the first step in determining pharmacokinetic parameters for that medicine. Then, at certain time intervals, samples of blood, urine, or other physiological fluid are taken from the subjects. To ascertain the amount of the drug present (drug concentration) at each individual timepoint, samples are examined. To create a "concentration versus time" profile, drug concentrations are examined throughout time.
in this video bioavailability, volume of distribution, half life and clearance are described.
