DIY CO₂ SYSTEM FOR MY NANO AQUASCAPE | Citric Acid + Baking Soda CO₂
In this video, I’m setting up a DIY CO₂ system for my nano aquascape using the citric acid + baking soda method. This setup produces CO₂ through a controlled reaction between citric acid and baking soda, providing a continuous source of CO₂ for aquatic plants.
I’m using a DIY CO₂ generator kit along with a solenoid valve, check valves and a glass bubble counter. For CO₂ diffusion, I’m currently using a power filter as an in-line CO₂ diffuser. I made a small hole in the filter chamber and inserted the CO₂ tubing, allowing the impeller to break the CO₂ bubbles into a fine mist and distribute them throughout the aquarium. 🌱💨
I also have an Aquario CO₂ diffuser, which can be used as an alternative diffusion method.

⚙️ How This DIY CO₂ System Works
The system uses citric acid and baking soda to generate CO₂ through a chemical reaction. The generated CO₂ travels through the tubing, passes through the bubble counter and is then diffused into the aquarium.
In this video, I focus mainly on assembling and connecting the complete system. I haven't shown the initial step of pushing the citric acid solution from Bottle A into Bottle B to start the reaction, as that is a relatively simple part of the process.
⚠️ Safety
CO₂ systems operate under pressure, so always use suitable bottles and components designed for pressurized CO₂ generation. Do not intentionally over-pressurize the system, and keep an eye on the pressure gauge and safety valve.
Never open or disconnect a pressurized bottle or component.
🌱 Results
I’ve also included some results from the nano aquascape toward the end of the video so you can see how the setup is working in the aquarium.
