many of you asked the same questions: Why Claude? Can OpenAI do the same thing? And what about OpenCode, which runs directly inside Home Assistant?
To make the comparison fair, I gave all three AI tools the same task: recreate my existing Stats Dashboard as a modern Home Assistant dashboard while leaving the original untouched, using only existing entities, removing broken references, separating monitoring from controls, and creating useful power and heating graphs.
Each AI created its own dashboard: Claude Dashboard, OpenAI Dashboard, and OpenCode Dashboard using Google Gemini.
I compare the setup process, dashboard quality, accuracy, speed, layout, mobile usability, graphs, broken entities, and how well each AI followed the instructions.
OpenAI Codex CLI Setup
1. Install OpenAI Codex CLI on Windows

Dashboard Test Prompt
Recreate my existing Stats Dashboard as a new, modern and organized Home Assistant dashboard named "[DASHBOARD NAME]".
Leave the original Stats Dashboard completely untouched. Use it only as the source for the layout, entities and information.
Create two views:
1. Overview - monitoring, status information, power and heating graphs.
2. Controls and Diagnostics - manual controls and troubleshooting information.
Only use entities that already exist, remove broken references, group related systems together, and make the dashboard work well on desktop and mobile.
Keep monitoring separate from manual controls. Protect thermostats and the alarm siren from accidental activation by placing them only in the controls view and using confirmation prompts where possible.
Do not change, delete or activate any devices, entities, automations or the original dashboard.
