I went back to the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. on a beautiful sunny day and found myself noticing the first signs of fall beginning to show.
The trail was still lush and green, but the changing season brought up something I struggle with every year: the transition from summer into fall and knowing that winter is coming. In this walk, I talk honestly about how seasonal changes can affect my mood and how I try to stay grounded by focusing on the day in front of me instead of getting too far ahead mentally.
For me, getting outside, moving my body, walking through the trees, and taking in whatever sunlight is available can make a real difference. I also talk about some of the ways people cope with seasonal changes, including light therapy, movement, and simply making a conscious effort to stay present.
Along the way, I take in the shaded trails, storm-damaged trees, changing foliage, benches tucked into quiet areas, and distant views of the monuments.
There are moments of talking and quieter stretches throughout. More than anything, this walk is about enjoying the season you are in, even when part of you is already thinking about what comes next.
