We Finally Leveled the Slope! Carving a Space for our Mountain Home

Bakhtiari nomad life in the Zagros Mountains continues with a full day of tractor work as the Asoona family gets their yard leveled. Muqaddar arranges for the loader that helped Kazem the day before to spend a day working on their own ground, and the morning starts with tea, breakfast, and cautious hope that the rocky ground can be tamed. While the loader works, Arkan plays with his ball and bike, Medina cooks and works through her subtitles, and Zahra calls in before heading to town to collect her schoolbooks. Midday brings kebabs and rice for the driver and the family, and as evening light settles over the mountains the work slows for a round of tea before picking back up. By the end of the day the ground is leveled, and Muqaddar settles up with the driver, acknowledging the hard work with more than he first offered.
