Re-pitched GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG Varnay, Ilosvay, Windgassen, Greindl - Knappertsbusch - Bayreuth 18VIII57

Here the last instalment of the wonderful 1957 Knappertsbusch Ring. A tribue to the invaluable work of Jürgen Grundheber who originally organised the radio tape copies and created the master for the Melodram / Golden Melodram released (and all subsequent releases which were copies of them). He clearly was very eager to get these recordings to the correct pitch, and considering the absence of the gadjets we now have at out disposal, he was amazingly successful. Some parts of the ring were perfectly on pitch at a=446 Hz, it was mostly at the point of tape changes when the pitch suddenly changed, but never by much.
