At 6am on the shortest day of the year, we set off up Ben Hope with head torches and no idea how steep the ground really was. Two and a half hours of darkness, a battering wind, and ice near the summit later, we finally see where we've been climbing. Ben Hope is the most northerly Munro in Scotland, and we set out to climb it in darkness before racing to Durness Golf Club for nine holes before sunset on the winter solstice.
