The Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party staged protest against the recent hike in power tariffs, targeting the National Conference government over and termed the power terrif hike betrayal of the promises made to the people during the elections. The protest was led by senior Apni Party leader Ashraf Mir, who along with party workers gathered at Press Colony in Srinagar and raised slogans against the government. The protesters accused the government of going back on its electoral commitment to provide 200 units of free electricity to households. They said that instead of delivering on the promise of free power, the government had imposed an additional burden on consumers by increasing electricity tariffs. The protesters demanded that the government reconsider the tariff hike and fulfil its commitment.
