Sexual and Gender Based Violence Impact in Uganda

Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) remains one of Uganda’s most pressing human rights challenges, affecting thousands of women, children, men, and boys every year. While the country has made progress in strengthening legal and institutional responses, survivors continue to face barriers such as stigma, delayed justice, weak investigations, and limited access to support services. In this feature, we explore the current state of SGBV in Uganda, examining the root causes of violence, its devastating impact on survivors, and the gaps that continue to hinder access to justice. The discussion also highlights the role of communities, justice actors, and policymakers in strengthening prevention, survivor support, and accountability.
