Before Hoover Dam could rise, builders had to divert the Colorado River away from its own construction site. This documentary follows the diversion tunnels through Black Canyon, the cofferdams that protected the work area, and the machines and crews that turned exposed rock into a foundation for a vast concrete structure. The story continues through cableways, concrete blocks and cooling systems, then follows the transition from construction site to a working water and power project. It also examines the people who labored in desert heat, the new town built to support them, and the engineering decisions that connected the dam to a wider system of water management. The main concrete placement ended in 1935; associated project features were completed in 1936. #americanconstruction #engineeringhistory #BuiltAmerica
