Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Social psychology shows that attitudes and behavior do not always perfectly correspond. Situational pressures, social expectations, impression management, habits, and other factors can influence what people actually do. Therefore, we should avoid judging someone from one isolated action while still paying attention to consistent patterns. The proverb says: “Actions speak louder than words.” Psychology adds: Look for consistency between what people say, what they value, and what they repeatedly do.
