Under the endless Prairie skies, passionate farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, and young people are transforming local wool into opportunities that celebrate Saskatchewan’s culture, heritage, and spirit of possibility. As the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre notes, the best thing about Saskatchewan is its people — and Woolkeepers of Saskatchewan introduces us to some of the most inspiring among them. The film begins at the lively Grasslands Sheep Exhibition in Humboldt, a hub for the province’s sheep and wool community. We meet Brian and Aimee Hunstad, whose family-run bedding company Count Your Sheep is bringing local wool into homes across Canada. We also visit Loch Lomond Farm, where Brooke Aitken and Chris Howard champion regenerative sheep farming practices. Follow lifelong fibre lovers and friends Karen Smith — owner of the Canadian Fibre Mill — and Mariette Anderson, who together created hand-knitted gifts for His Majesty King Charles III, Patron of the Campaign for Wool. Join Prairie Interlace curators Julia Krueger and Timothy Long as they reflect on Saskatchewan’s renowned modernist Indigenous weavers, Marge Yuzicappi and Pat Adams. Together, they tell a story of creativity, collaboration, and community — where the legacy of wool continues to grow under the Prairie sun. We are grateful to the Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board for their financial and logistical support, as well as to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for their continued partnership.
