In this walking tour, we explore the historic Galata neighborhood and the iconic Galata Tower, one of Istanbul's most famous landmarks. Standing approximately 67 meters (220 feet) tall, Galata Tower was built in 1348 by the Genoese and was originally known as the Tower of Christ (Christea Turris). Throughout its long history, it has served as a watchtower, a fire observation tower, and one of the city's most important landmarks. Today, it is one of Istanbul's most visited attractions, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Galata Tower is also connected to one of Istanbul's most legendary stories. According to legend, in the 17th century, Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi flew from the top of Galata Tower across the Bosphorus using handcrafted wings and successfully landed in Üsküdar. Whether fact or legend, this remarkable story has made Galata Tower an enduring symbol of Istanbul's rich history. Our walk begins around Galata Tower and continues through the lively streets of the Galata district, where you'll discover charming cafés, historic buildings, vibrant street life, and the unique atmosphere that attracts both locals and visitors from around the world. Along the way, we pass the famous Commando Stairs and the historic Bankalar Caddesi (Banks Street), once the financial heart of the Ottoman Empire. The district beautifully blends centuries of history with modern city life, making it one of Istanbul's most fascinating neighborhoods. This video was filmed on a hot summer day in July 2026. Join me as we experience the energy, architecture, history, and unforgettable atmosphere of Galata on foot.
