Safeguarding in an early years setting includes protecting colleagues as well as children. This lesson explains how staff wellbeing, professional integrity and a positive workplace culture all contribute to safer practice. You will learn why concerns about colleague behaviour or unsafe workplace practices should not be ignored, even when nothing dramatic has happened. The session emphasises the importance of noticing possible misconduct, recognising warning signs, speaking up and reporting concerns. It also explains that raising a concern can protect everyone, including the colleague involved who may need support. The exact reporting route is not provided in the lesson, so practitioners must follow their own setting’s safeguarding policies and procedures to identify who to speak to and what happens next. Clear policies, regular training, open discussion and supportive teamwork can help create a culture where concerns are taken seriously. By safeguarding colleagues, early years practitioners also help protect children from harm caused by inappropriate behaviour or unsafe practice.
