Honda K20A engine explained: open the original July 2001 Japanese Integra Type R (LA-DC5) and see why VTEC and VTC are two different mechanisms.
VTEC selects a cam profile by hydraulically connecting three rocker arms. VTC shifts the intake camshaft's phase while keeping that selected profile. Follow the lost-motion center rocker, locking pins, timing chain, four pistons, sixteen valves, intake overlap, fixed short manifold and port fuel injection.
SELECTED FACTORY NET SPECIFICATION
1,998 cc; inline-four; DOHC 16 valves; 86.0 x 86.0 mm bore/stroke; 11.5:1 compression.
162 kW / 220 PS at 8,000 rpm; 206 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
220 PS means metric horsepower. Converting the rounded 162 kW gives approximately 217 mechanical hp. These are Japanese DC5 Type R ratings; K20A2, iS, later FD2 and turbo K20C figures are not substituted.

Original ClueShift teaching film: original metallic 3D cutaways, illustrative diagrams, synthetic narration and original sound design. These are explanatory reconstructions, not Honda factory CAD, recorded engine footage or measured simulations. Bore/stroke ratio, cylinder count, 1-3-4-2 firing sequence and 2:1 crank/cam relationship are retained. Rocker/pin dimensions, actuator vane count, phase range, valve event windows and oil routes are illustrative. Cam contacts use simplified flat teaching surfaces; production roller-contact geometry is not reconstructed. Intake VTC only; Type R VTEC profile switching on intake AND exhaust. No exact ECU activation map, factory cam lift/phase degrees, CFD, tuning or reliability claim. The sound design is not a real engine recording.
