Baruch part 4 - The Divine Ascent

In this episode of Divine Ascent, I’m joined by Josh Davidson of Faith Unaltered and Troy Yurchak for a deep exploration of the Incarnation as the climax of the biblical Wisdom arc. Together, we trace how divine Wisdom moves from cosmic mystery to Torah, from Torah to the “tailored” human nature assumed by Christ, and finally into the cosmic reconciliation described by Paul. We examine John 1:14 as the moment the Logos takes on the final χιτῶνες δερματῖνοι — the garment of skin — fulfilling the long preparation of Israel’s story. Drawing from Gregory of Nazianzus, we discuss how everything Christ assumes is healed, and how the Incarnation becomes the maturation and restoration of human nature. From there, we turn to Micah 2:13, exploring Christ as the Breaker who shatters the enclosure of death and leads humanity out behind Him. This naturally leads into the Harrowing of Hades and the Paschal mystery: how Holy Saturday is not symbolic but a yearly, embodied reenactment of following Christ through the gate into Resurrection. We then move into Romans 7:21–8:14, showing how Paul interprets the Incarnation and Resurrection as the interior liberation of the human person — the Spirit’s harrowing of the heart. Finally, we ascend to Colossians 1, where Paul reveals Christ as pre‑existent Wisdom, the One through whom all things were made, the One who reconciles the cosmos, and the One who indwells humanity as “the hope of glory.” This conversation brings together Scripture, patristics, Second Temple literature, and Eastern Orthodox theology to show how the Incarnation is the moment Wisdom becomes flesh, breaks death, heals human nature, indwells humanity, and reconciles all creation.
