2026 NZ Junior Surfing Team Piha Posse

Piha surfers make up one third of the 2026 - 12 member NZ Junior Team that will compete at the ISA World Junior Surfing Champs in early September. This is a short video mainly of Sev, Kyra, Poppy, and Zeke, having one last surf at their home break before they put their wetsuits away for 16 days and fly to El Salvador. The conditions this morning were very average even by Piha's standards, but these four young surfers are just full of gratitude. They know what an opportunity they have, and they know their separate and combined communities have raised the $34,000 for them all to compete. This event will have over 50 other countries sending their best Under 18 surfers and the members of the NZ Team know that they are under-resourced and don't have quite the quality of waves, or surfing friendly climates of many countries, but what they do have is old fashioned Kiwi grit and resilience, and they know that if they can catch good enough waves in their heats, they can take it to the world's best.
