n celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Witnesses of History: The American Revolution continues with one of the most pivotal turning points before independence. July 6, 1775. The colonies had already seen blood at Lexington and Concord. Charlestown had burned. Boston was still under British control. The war had begun — but independence had not yet been declared. So Congress spoke to the world. “Last Appeal from Reason” is inspired by the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms, where the colonies explained that they had reasoned, petitioned, remonstrated, and waited — but when appeals were answered by force, they believed resistance had become necessary. This song takes the language of that moment — truth, law, right, liberty, voluntary slavery, fire, sword, famine — and gives it a modern revolutionary sound: dark boom-bap rock, dusty strings, deep male lead, and a repeating hook built around the line: Last appeal. From reason into arms. This was not yet independence. It was the last petition with powder behind it.
