Implementing synodality in the local churches. An exclusive interview with cardinal Timothy Radcliffe OP. The process of reflection on synodality in the Church initiated by the late Pope Francis is ongoing. In a first phase, local churches worldwide sent their ideas and expectations on synodality to the synod. Then, during two general assemblies of the synod (2023 and 2024) participants from local churches of every continent took time to reflect together. During this phase of the process, the Dominican cardinal Timothy Radcliffe played a special role. Pope Francis invited him to offer meditations on synodality to the participants of the two general assemblies. After the end of the synod on the level of the universal Church, it is now up to the local churches to apply locally the conclusions of the synod. As the Estonian translation of the meditations on synodality by cardinal Radcliffe are being prepared for publication, the former master of the Order of Preachers granted an interview to the website of the Dominicans in Estonia. During this interview, he shares his impressions on this stimulating process, points out its importance for the future of the Church and offers some hints how to overcome resistances to synodality at local level.
