Gene Kelly in PAL JOEY (1940, Broadway)

On this day 80 years ago Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart's Pal Joey opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Seen here are 8mm home movies shot by June Havoc, the original Gladys Bumps. Included is black and white footage from the wings and colour footage from the house, all of which captures Gene Kelly's Broadway debut, alongside his later MGM schoolmates Van Johnson and Stanley Donen, as well as Vivienne Sigel.
