The Attari-Wagah Border Parade, also known as the Beating Retreat Ceremony, is one of the most unique experiences you can have near Amritsar. Every evening, the Indian BSF and Pakistan Rangers perform a highly synchronized ceremonial parade featuring marching, high kicks, flag-lowering and the closing of the border gates. The general entry to Atari Wagha border is completely FREE — there is no regular ticket fee to watch the ceremony. Seating in the general gallery is essentially first come, first served, so reaching early is important if you want a good view. ⭐ VIP / Reserved Seating For foreign visitors, there is a separate area/entry arrangement for foreign passport holders. Carry your valid passport, as foreign visitors may be directed to the designated foreigner/reserved seating area. For Indian citizens, closer/reserved seating may be available through a special pass/application process with BSF. Visitor reports indicate that applications can be submitted through the BSF establishment at Khasa, near the Amritsar bypass, with ID details and the names of the visitors. Availability and procedure can change, so it's best to confirm with BSF locally rather than paying anyone claiming to sell a “VIP ticket.” ⏰ Parade Timings The timing changes according to the season: ❄️ Winter: around 4:15 PM ☀️ Summer: around 5:15 PM The schedule can be revised depending on daylight and local arrangements, so check the latest timing before travelling. 👉 My tip: Reach the venue at least 1 hour before the ceremony if you want to get good general seats. On weekends and busy days, reaching even earlier is advisable because the stands can fill up quickly. 📍 How far is Wagah Border from Amritsar? The Attari-Wagah Border is roughly 30–35 km from Amritsar, depending on your starting point. You can reach the border by shared cab, auto-rickshaw, taxi/private cab, or other local transport.
