One day, Mario and Luigi are invited to Princess Peach's castle for a party and everything seems right in the Mushroom Kingdom. Unbeknownst to them, that dastardly Bowser not only managed to build a fortress beneath the castle to launch it up in the sky, but he stole the Star Rod from Star Haven. After buffing himself with its power, he easily dispatches Mario and sends him crashing out of Peach's castle. Not all is lost, the Star Spirits use their remaining power to revive Mario and task him to rescue them, as Bowser and Kammy Koopa ensnared them in cards.
