A Cat's Tale | Official Music Video

Inspired by the Tamil verses of one of India's most celebrated poets, Subramania Bharati, A Cat's Tale is a plea for equality and equity. Written over a century ago, these verses still resonate, a reminder that on the path to a world free of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or caste, we still have a ways to go. The verses have been sung as a Viruttam, a form of musical poetry rooted in the South Indian system of Carnatic music. The cat gave birth to kittens...each one, a different color. One was the color of ash, one as black as pitch, one the color of a snake, and one as white as milk. Whichever color they may be, are they not all the same? To say that one color is inferior, and another, superior...is it even right? How can you say that? While our colors might be different, our humanity is the same.
