You step into a bathroom in a tiny home. There’s a tub, a vanity, a toilet, and a wall of warm cedar. Then someone slides two frosted glass doors shut, a stove in the corner starts heating a kettle of stones, and the room quietly becomes a private sauna. Same room, same tub, same toilet, in a house only twenty-four feet long. It was built in California by a designer who took on one of the hardest challenges in small-space design: fitting a Finnish-style sauna into a home you can tow behind a truck. But a room that hot and wet inside a wooden house on wheels raises serious questions about fire, moisture, weight, and space.
In this video, we cover:
✅ Meet The Spa: a 24-foot custom tiny home designed by Brian Crabb of VIVA Collectiv, with 344 sq ft including two lofts
✅ How the bathroom transforms into a sauna: sliding frosted glass doors, a stone-kettle stove, a tub cover that doubles as a shelf, and a powerful exhaust system
✅ Why cedar and tongue-and-groove cladding suit a room that swings between dry heat, steam, and cool air
✅ What any wood-fired sauna stove requires: clearances, a listed chimney, ventilation, and a carbon monoxide detector
✅ Why a chimney conflicts with the 13.5-foot road height limit, and what the coverage doesn’t document
✅ How a tub fits into the same space, and the water, weight, and drainage math
✅ The two sleeping lofts, the full kitchen, and a comparison with a conventional 24-foot tiny home
✅ The challenges of fitting luxury into 24 feet, plus cheaper ways to get a similar experience
✅ A five-question test before you put a sauna in your tiny home
Note: coverage of The Spa dates from about 2019 to 2023, and we found no price or sign that it’s for sale. The coverage doesn’t say what fuel the stove uses, the temperature, or the tub’s size, so those sections use general guidance and our own simplified illustrations. Stove, clearance, and cost figures describe sauna stoves in general, not The Spa’s specific equipment.

Disclaimer: This video is for informational and entertainment purposes only and does not constitute engineering, fire safety, electrical, plumbing, health, legal, or financial advice. Installing a stove or heater in a small wooden structure involves serious fire, carbon monoxide, moisture, and structural risks. Specifications, prices, and examples are based on publicly available coverage at the time of production, much of it several years old, and may be outdated or vary by builder. Stove clearances, chimney requirements, towing and height limits, building codes, permits, and insurance requirements vary by jurisdiction and by product. Saunas are not suitable for everyone; consult a doctor if you have a heart condition, are pregnant, or have other health concerns. Always follow the stove manufacturer’s installation manual, request itemized quotes, and consult a licensed installer, builder, your local building department, and your insurer before building anything with a fire in it.
