Patience and Progress: Rick Bowness on Developing the Columbus Blue Jackets

John Shannon and Daren Millard welcome Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Rick Bowness to 100% Hockey for a conversation about the team's unusual start to the season, the development of its young players, and the challenges of building consistency in the NHL. Bowness discusses Columbus' October schedule, which has featured extended stretches between games and plenty of practice time. He explains how the lack of a consistent game rhythm can affect a team's chemistry and performance, while also providing opportunities to work on important details. The conversation turns to the development of Kent Johnson and Denton Mateychuk, with Bowness highlighting their work ethic, growing responsibilities, and the importance of allowing young players to learn through experience. He also praises veteran goaltender Cam Talbot for his professionalism and the example he sets for younger teammates. Elsewhere around the NHL, John and Daren examine the situation surrounding Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings, including the challenges of managing player dissatisfaction and maintaining team chemistry. The guys also discuss the possibility of Russia returning to international hockey competition, ongoing questions surrounding jersey sponsorship at international events, and the NHL's upcoming Hometown Remix jerseys. Plus, a look at the Washington Capitals' early success, Alex Tuch's contributions, and the struggles facing the Buffalo Sabres.
