YIDA OTR: WENZHOU, CHINA | Hip-Hop, Jersey Club, Trap, Balie Funk, Rage, and More My name is DJ YIDA, a Hip-Hop DJ from China. I travel and tour around the world, and along the way, I love exchanging culture and music with local DJs. That’s what inspired me to start this project: YIDA ON THE ROAD, a B2B DJ set series. I went to Wenzhou, a water town in the south of China, to link up with my friend DJ NEONEON — a fellow self-taught bedroom DJ. We met at his school, Wenzhou-Kean University, a unique Sino-American joint campus. We took over a music rehearsal room inside the campus library and threw down a wild B2B DJ set with his friends. Midway through the session, some school staff tried to shut us down — but the energy was already unstoppable. We blended a wide range of genres, all rooted in hip-hop, to create an eclectic and refreshing mix.
