In Ezra 3:1–13, the people of Israel return to Jerusalem and begin rebuilding the altar and laying the foundations of the temple. Their return is marked by both joy and sorrow—some shout for joy at the sight of the new foundations, while others weep as they remember what has been lost. This passage reminds us that rebuilding and renewal can bring mixed emotions. Yet through it all, God's people gather together to worship and give thanks, trusting in His faithfulness.
