COUGAR AVGP The Cougar AVGP or (Armoured Vehicle General Purpose) is a Canadian Military vehicle which was introduced in 1977, and retired from service in 2005. The current LAV III and the US Army Stryker directly evolved from these Canadian designs. The Cougar was used as a tank trainer, reconnaissance and infantry fire support vehicle. The vehicle can carry two soldiers in addition to the crew of three which consists of a Commander, Driver and Gunner. The Cougar has been deployed by the Canadian Forces in several missions overseas before it was removed from service. The vehicle weighs 10.7 tonnes and can reach a speed of 100 km/h. The main armament of the Cougar is a 76 mm L23A1 Gun mounted in the turret with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. The vehicle is also equipped with a secondary 7.62 mm machine gun and 66 mm smoke grenade launchers.
