We Sent 9 Popular Jam Brands to a Lab — Most Are Just Corn Syrup and Food Dye in Disguise
Nine jam brands tested for actual fruit content, sugar source, and additive profile, and the results confirmed what the ingredient lists were already communicating to anyone reading past the front label. High fructose corn syrup appearing above fruit on the ingredient list, red and blue dye combinations standing in for the color that real fruit concentration produces, and pectin levels high enough to set a product that does not contain enough actual fruit to gel on its own are the defining characteristics of most of what the jam aisle is selling. The brands charging premium prices for artisan or natural labeling are frequently running the same formulation with cane sugar substituted for corn syrup and better packaging doing the rest of the work. We sent 9 popular jam brands to an independent lab and tested for fruit content percentage, sugar source, and artificial color markers. In this video we show exactly what came back and the brands that actually contained what jam is supposed to be made from. Like and subscribe, we do this every day.
