🚴 *Montée de Bisanne | One of the Toughest Climbs Near Albertville | French Alps Cycling*
The *Montée de Bisanne* is one of the great cycling climbs in the Albertville and Beaufortain region of the French Alps.
If you're staying around **Albertville, Beaufort or Les Saisies**, this is a climb I'd definitely put on your list — although I wouldn't recommend it as a gentle warm-up!
The climb featured in the *Tour de France in 2016**, on Stage 19 from Albertville to Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc, where **Romain Bardet* took the stage victory. It returned to the Tour in **2018**, on the Albertville–La Rosière stage won by **Geraint Thomas**, and has also featured in the **Critérium du Dauphiné**.
⛰️ Montée de Bisanne climb stats
📍 Start: Villard-sur-Doron
📏 Distance: approximately 12.4 km
📈 Average gradient: around 8.2%
⬆️ Elevation gain: approximately 1,018 m
🏔️ Summit: around 1,500 m
💪 Maximum gradients: around 13%
The climb is classified as *Hors Catégorie* when used in the Tour de France.
Once you reach **Bisanne 1500**, you have a choice. Continue towards **Col des Saisies and Les Saisies**, following the roads used by the professional races, or carry on for another couple of kilometres to the **Signal de Bisanne at 1,931 m**.
And if you have the legs, I strongly recommend going all the way to the Signal.
The **360° views from the summit are spectacular**, with views towards Mont Blanc, the Cormet de Roselend, the surrounding Beaufortain mountains, the Col des Aravis and, on a clear day, deep into the Alps.
🚴 Build a bigger Alpine ride
The Montée de Bisanne works particularly well as part of a longer loop.
You can combine it with:
• Col des Saisies
• Col des Prés
• Col de la Forclaz de Montmin
• Signal de Bisanne
It's a fantastic area for exploring the French Alps by bike, particularly if you're based around **Albertville or Beaufort**.
