Balla Diabaté - Lampedusa - Live at Afrika Festival Hertme 2026

Balla Diabaté - Mali Live at Afrika Festival Hertme - The Netherlands Date of performance - July 5, 2026 Balla Diabaté belongs to one of Mali’s most influential griot families and is a representative of the young generation of kora players keeping the Mandé tradition alive. As the son of the legendary Toumani Diabaté and brother of Sidiki Diabaté, he grew up in a musical family where the kora—a 21-string harp-lute—serves as a central vessel for history, poetry, and cultural identity. Within the griot tradition, music and oral history have been passed down through families for generations, with technical mastery and cultural heritage remaining deeply intertwined. Balla Diabaté is developing his own voice within this tradition; while rooted in the classical kora repertoire, his work reflects a contemporary sensibility. He performs internationally and is part of a new wave of musicians who continue to showcase Malian heritage on modern stages. This performance at the Afrika Festival Hertme marks his debut in the Netherlands. Welcome to the official Afrika Festival Hertme archive YouTube channel!
