Maulana Zahid ur Rashidi Sahib introduces Shah Waliullah's own coined term "Irtifaq" (rooted in the sense of ease — rifq — and grounded in the Qur'an's own use of "murtafaqa" in Surah al-Kahf), sketches a six-point roadmap for the whole upcoming chapter, and argues that humans share the same basic instinctive "program" with other creatures — illustrated through the honeybee, the sparrow, a newborn's nursing reflex, and a six-hour-old infant scratching an itch. He then turns to three traits that set humans apart: future-oriented planning that extends even to the afterlife, refinement and elegance in meeting needs, and the capacity of a few insightful individuals to discover better solutions that everyone else adopts.
