William’s version of "When You Were Young" is out now: https://williamfitzsimmons.ffm.to/whe...
From William - "The Killers have made a career out of massive rock hits, but have always found a way to explore vulnerable themes in a way that captures you before you even know what the song is about. I've always been mildly obsessed with the contrast between young innocence and mature resignation. That awful point we all must go through when magic yields to mortgages. We often still look for saviors to fix us and bring back those original feelings of warmth and safety. For my version of “When You Were Young” I wanted to remove the grandiose anger and focus instead on the painful nostalgia. But the masterful instrumental melody remains firm."
Written by Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci - ASCAP / Universal Music Publishing

Lyrics
You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
Save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness; watch it now, here he comes
Doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined
When you were young
Can we climb this mountain? I don't know
It’s higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy, easy now, watch it go
Burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turnin'
When you were young
When you were young
And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young
They say the devil's water ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while
You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
Save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness; watch it now, here he comes
Doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined
When you were young
When you were young
When you were young
When you were young
