As the real estate market changes, I expect we may start seeing more sellers and investors offering homes as **rent-to-own, lease-to-own, or lease-purchase properties**. I've been in real estate for decades, and I saw these types of arrangements become much more common after the 2008–2009 housing market crash. Unfortunately, I also saw what happened to some of the people who entered into them. Here's the problem: You may pay a sizeable upfront deposit or option fee and then make monthly payments to the owner — believing you're working toward eventually owning the home. But what happens if the owner *doesn't pay the mortgage?* The lender can still foreclose on the property. And you could potentially lose the home you've been living in AND the money you've already paid. In all my years working in real estate, I personally have never seen a rent-to-own arrangement successfully make it all the way to closing. What I HAVE seen are people who thought they were buying a home and ended up losing money. That's why I don't recommend rent-to-own or lease-to-own arrangements. If you're not ready to qualify for a traditional mortgage today, I'd rather see you figure out **what is preventing you from qualifying**, work on those issues, save your money, and put yourself in a position to purchase a home the traditional way. 🏠 *Buying a home is a major financial decision. Know exactly what you're signing before you hand over your money.* 👍 If this video helped you, please LIKE the video and SUBSCRIBE for more straightforward information about mortgages, underwriting, credit, and buying a home. #RentToOwn #LeaseToOwn #HomeBuying #FirstTimeHomeBuyer #RealEstate #MortgageTips #HomeBuyerTips
