For an international student living far from home, a festival as monumental as Dashain can often feel bittersweet—a day when the physical distance from your family feels the longest. However, this is where our university, Asian University for Women (AUW) proves that family is defined not just by blood but by community.
When we are too far to receive Tika from our parents, AUW steps into that role creating an atmosphere that resonates with the love of our native homes. AUW never fails to make international students feel truly at home. From the early-morning excitement of wearing our finest attire to the vibrant cultural performances that echo the rhythms of our cultures, the university transforms into a microcosm of the festival. On our D-day at AUW, faculty, staff, and our "sisters" from dozens of different nations come together. They replicate the sacred rituals with deep respect, ensuring that no one feels forgotten or alone.
We receive our blessings from members of our AUW family, we feast on a shared grand banquet that celebrates the rich diverse culinary heritage of Asia, and we create new memories on a different kind of "D-day"—one where AUW confirms that, regardless of where we come from, here, we have a home that triumphs over all distance. Thank you everyone.
