From Umeda in Osaka to the bright lights of Shibuya, this is my overnight journey across Japan by highway bus and my very first day in Tokyo! 🇯🇵
I start at Umeda, Osaka's biggest bus hub near Yodobashi Umeda, where night buses leave for both north and south Japan. I booked my ticket on kosokubus.com, waited at Starbucks, and boarded the overnight bus to Tokyo. I arrive at 7 AM, spot the Shinkansen bullet train, and share how strict (and peaceful) Japanese night buses are.
Then it's off to Akasaka: a beautiful temple up around 60 stairs, the Akasaka skyline, and a quick guide to Japan's famous high-tech toilets. In the evening I head to Shibuya, Tokyo's "Times Square", to see the world-famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing, navigate Shibuya Station's colour-coded lines, explore the busy shopping streets, and end the night on a walking street packed with bars and clubs with an Asahi beer 🍺.
