OHIO TAKES ON DATA CENTERS | TRUMP REJECTS AI WARNINGS | HOUTHIS TIGHTEN GRIP ON RED SEA

On today’s Jake Underwood Show, we break down Ohio House Bill 983, the proposed Data Center Accountability and Citizen Protection Act. The legislation would require voter approval before certain large-scale data centers are built or expanded, impose new environmental and transparency requirements, end future property-tax abatements for qualifying projects, and require certain future data centers to generate their own electricity rather than shifting infrastructure costs onto ratepayers. The bill was introduced by State Reps. Jennifer Gross and Michelle Teska and remains in the House. At the same time, President Donald Trump is pushing back hard against growing warnings over artificial intelligence. Trump called fears surrounding AI a “HOAX,” rejected calls for additional government regulation and renewed his support for the data centers powering the AI boom. Overseas, the Houthis are tightening their grip on one of the world’s most important shipping corridors. The Iran-backed group has captured Greater and Lesser Hanish islands after earlier gains around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, increasing pressure on a route critical to Saudi oil shipments and global trade. Back home, Cleveland City Council has officially declared part of Lake Erie the “Gulf of Cleveland.” Yes, really—but it’s political satire. Resolution 1047-2026 directs Cleveland departments to use the new name for the portion of Lake Erie extending two miles from the city’s shoreline, while acknowledging that the city’s naming authority is limited. Plus, the House unanimously approved legislation designed to permanently end production of the penny and establish rounding rules for cash transactions. Existing pennies would remain legal tender. And in Barberton, police received a report from a man who believed he had been communicating online with Barack Obama—until the supposed former president asked him for $400 in Apple gift cards. Ohio.
