She told Truly: "I fell into polyamory accidentally when I was in my early twenties. I came across a book called 'The Myth of Monogamy'. I read it and I was fascinated by what was in it, I always felt that monogamy was a little bit forced for a lot of people." Continuing she said: "I've been polyamorous for six plus years now. I accrued so much knowledge and I have been mentored by women who have been polyamorous for decades and in healthy polyamorous marriages. I was like, I have this knowledge, I have to share it." Raya has been with her partner True, for four years. They both knew that they didn't want it to be monogamous when they entered the relationship. Raya explained: "Around the six-month mark we started entertaining and bringing in other partners." Their way of life hasn't always been smooth sailing, bringing in partners has caused friction in the past, and leaving True feeling jealous: "These women love her. They don't love me as much," he joked. However, they work through any issues with thoughtful communication. The outside world can be quick to judge their unconventional dynamic: "Sometimes when we're in public and like there's affection between the three of us, we get looks like we're freaks or something," Raya admitted.
