7 Days in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit: Logan’s Hardest Week 💙 | Logan & Dad

Logan and I spent seven days at Jennie Sealy Hospital at UTMB Health in Galveston, Texas, while he underwent monitoring in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). The goal was to give his Doctors an opportunity to find out where in his brain the seizures are coming from and hopefully give a path to better control them. Those seven days were incredibly difficult for Logan. During the stay, he experienced four grand mal seizures, and during the last seizure, he unfortunately broke his foot. Watching your child go through something like this is heartbreaking. For me as his dad, there were moments of fear, exhaustion, and helplessness that are difficult to put into words. Logan can’t simply tell me how he’s feeling or what hurts, so being there beside him through every moment was especially hard. But there were also people who made an incredibly difficult week a little easier. The nurses, doctors, and entire team at Jennie Sealy Hospital treated Logan with kindness, patience, and compassion, and I’m truly grateful for the care they gave him. UTMB’s Epilepsy Monitoring Unit uses video and EEG monitoring to help doctors evaluate and characterize seizures.
