In 2018, I left Sydney for South Korea with big dreams and no real plan for how I’d make it work. Then the pandemic left me stuck outside Korea, and I eventually started a new life in Thailand. In this poolside chat, I look back at the mistakes, wake-up calls and lessons that shaped my life abroad. I talk honestly about money, finding work, building a routine, choosing the right friends and learning when to say no. I also share the story of getting arrested in Korea, what I learned from it, and the challenges of learning Korean, Thai and Japanese as an adult.
