A three-member NHRC team has reached the district to conduct an on-ground inquiry into allegations of assault and mistreatment involving Tikhiri gram panchayat sarpanch Chameli Ojha. The alleged incident took place on June 11 inside the Mahakalapada BDO’s chamber. The NHRC team is expected to examine the Mahakalapada block office and police station and question officials, police personnel, eyewitnesses and other people connected with the case. The team is also expected to meet Chameli Ojha and record statements from the concerned parties. Recent reports said the NHRC had informed the Kendrapara Collector and SP about the visit. In a significant order, the Orissa High Court has ordered that the no-confidence motion against Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikiri inMahakalapada block of Odisha’s Kendrapada district will continue. The interim direction was issued by the High Court while hearing a petition filed by Chameli Ojha challenging the no-confidence motion moved against her.
