GroundWork | Biodiversity Governance and Indigenous Rights — Preparing for CBD COP17

There was widespread elation when the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was agreed. Four years on, it's time for a reckoning: has the GBF delivered on its 23 targets to protect and restore our living world? How are countries measuring up — and how are Indigenous Peoples and local communities driving change? COP17 in Armenia will be a moment to take stock and push for greater ambition. At this GroundWork briefing leading Indigenous advocates will share how Indigenous Peoples' priorities are shaping the CBD process, including through the new permanent Subsidiary Body on Article 8j. We will look at the Traditional Knowledge Indicators and key conservation targets, the risks and the openings they present, and tackle the hard question of finance: getting resources to where they're most needed and most effective.
